BrookDance 2017

Brook Dance is an intensive training and development programme for vocational students and professional dancers early on in their career. Each year, the programme is overseen by a mentor who will work with the group. Application is through an open call, in Spring of each year.

Shawbrook Residency | Johanna Nuutinen

Finnish choreographer Johanna Nuutinen takes up residency here at Shawbrook to develop her latest piece IRIS. The multidisciplinary work is directed by Johanna Nuutinen in collaboration with film maker Jukka Rajala-Granstubb explores the themes of strength, desire and survival through the mediums of dance, film and photography. The production will premiere in Helsinki, Finland in September 2017. With them are renowned dance artists Nathalie Ruiz and Yvan Auzely. The production is supported by Finnish Cultural Foundation, Arts Promotion Center Finland, Vivicas Vänner Foundation and Huber Foundation.

Shawbrook | Cruinniú na Casca

Shawbrook is delighted to be part of a Criunniú na Cásca events in a planned magical mystery tour discovering Creative Longford – to celebrate history, heritage, dance, music and art of the county. Organised by Creative Longford, The day will begin at Connolly Barracks located in the historic heart of Longford town. Buses will then depart for cultural venues around the county including: the Anglo Norman motte-and-bailey castle Granard; the birthplace of writer Maria Edgeworth; Shawbrook, a haven for dance set on a traditional 18th century farm in a forest of oak, ash and beech trees; and ending the day with the best of Irish music around the fire at The Haggard, a unique venue set around a thatched cottage in Moyne, north Longford. POWER and VULNERABILITY

Shawbrook artist in residence Dane Hurst invites dancers to join him for a workshop and studio sharing of his work-in-devlopment on Friday 14th April. The workshop will focus on partnering technique and contact improvisation leading to the creation of a new duet from his repertoire, in collaboration with participants. The partnering workshop will last approx 2.5hrs. The focus is on the power and vulnerability of contact within dance.

Lunch will be provided at Shawbrook

Shawbrook Residency - Dane Hurst

Shawbrook Artists-in-residence 2017

Dane Hurst will be working with musician and composer Nao Masuda. Nao is a Japanese taiko drummer. Together they will further explore the relationship between movement and the creation of music.  They will use themes from a recent collaboration on Exodus to explore identity, belonging, displacement, isolation, powerlessness and courage.
