Shawbrook Residency - Youri de Gussem (BEL)

During this residency, Youri will research for a new piece," L’autre Monde/Spiritus" (working title), a trio based on the Mind/Spirit of Human being. In Metaphysics and in the religions, the Mind/Spirit designates the immaterial element incarnated in the human being. In psychology, the term becomes synonymous with all human mental activities, conscious and non-conscious. The aim is to explore these mental faculties and put in movement these immaterial elements.

The research will be focus on 3 different methods that are able to modify our mental states: • The meditation – Achieved by a practice and a research of our inner freedom that is beneficial for our body and mind. • Drugs taking – Uses of external elements to achieve a state with often detrimental effects on the body and mind. • Schizophrenia / Dissociative Identity Disorders – Both diseases that torture the individual and weaken the mind/mental state. No control/impotence.

The movement research will be guided by these mental, emotional, and intangible states to define the choreographic material and vocabulary of the piece.
