Shawbrook Residency - Janne Aspvik (Finland)

My intention is to work in a disciplined and efficient manner, and produce as much high quality choreographic material as I possibly can during my stay in Shawbrook. This material is intended to become the basis of an upcoming piece with the working title ”Anskri” (Swedish for battle cry), with a planned premiere in Finland at the end of 2019. The piece will be an outcry of sorts by me as an artist and a person in a world of global warming and political and social upheaval, but also a vehicle for hope, and a plea for restructuring of society.

Janne Aspvik graduated as a Bachelor of Art (Dance) from the Theatre Academy in Helsinki in 2010. He has worked as a dancer in Helsinki City Theatre and in performances by Tero Saarinen, Elina Pirinen, Janina Rajakangas, Liisa Pentti, Mikko Hyvönen, Petri Kekoni, Alpo Aaltokoski and Maya M. Carroll. In 2016, he was chosen to participate in David Zambano's one-month EXIN course. Aspvik has also worked as a choreographer since 2012, and has worked as a dance instructor in many professional and student courses.
