Celebrating the 40th anniversary of Triskel Christchurch (TCC): Cork Midsummer Festival (CMF), the National Sculpture Factory of Ireland (NSF) and Cork based composer Peter Power have come together to create a new music work entitled ‘In Clouds’. This series of new compositions will be set to contemporary Irish women’s poetry for choral group Tonnta. These will be presented and conceptually realised via multi-media visual art, dance and architectural constructions, creating an immersive experience of the music and opening up access to contemporary Irish music for new audiences. The piece will be composed by Peter Power and Michael Gallen. Peter’s work takes non-traditional ensembles and manifests music experiences through positioning the work in extra-ordinary contexts (Eat My Noise, fLux, Inquyre). Michael is an acclaimed Irish composer, most notable for his operatic and symphonic work, as well as solo projects in processed piano (Extraterrestrial Events, Wilde Stories). He has an award winning track record writing for the ensemble Tonnta (Tardigrade), experience which is crucial to the collaboration between the composers and the Tonnta ensemble. In performance, cross-over artist and singer Stephanie Dufresne will choreograph and perform the piece alongside Tonnta, Michael Gallen will accompany the choir with acoustic piano and live electronic processing and Peter Power will helm the electronics and other instruments required for the performance. For the visual elements of the piece, David Máthuna will work in close collaboration with Peter Power to create the projected elements of the show, while award winning designer Sarah Jane Shiels will curate the staging and lighting. ‘In Clouds’ is set for premiere at CMF 2018 for 6 performances at Triskel Arts Centre.
